Annual Farmers Gathering

RAFFL’s 6th annual Farmers’ Gathering and Resource Fair was held March 22, 2011 at Green Mountain College. Over 100 farmers, community members, students and service providers attended this year’s event.

Workshops connected farmers with institutional buyers, explored strategies for scaling up production, addressed the importance of farm food safety plans and offered expertise and ideas for on-farm composting and hiring farm employees.

At the resource fair, over 25 agricultural service providers - like lenders, business planners, technical assistance providers, marketing organizations and conservation leaders - provided information on resources available to help farmers.

A delicious meal sourced from local farms was provided by Chartwells Dining Service and was followed by a presentation by Ellen Kahler, Executive Director of the Vermont Sustainable Jobs Fund on “What does the Farm-to-Plate Strategy Mean for Rutland County?”
