Singing Cedars Farmstead is Hiring for Summer of 2013

RAFFL

Seeking Assistant Farm Managers (paid positions) Singing Cedars Farmstead is a certified organic diversified farm located on Lake Champlain in Orwell, selling meats, tomatoes, greenhouse crops, and prepared foods. For this upcoming season 2013 I am seeking a couple or several individuals with previous experience to manage the day to day operations of the farm. Accordingly as assistants we work together to plan the season, keeping production geared towards past successes and the areas that you are especially skilled or interested in. A large component of these positions is sales. Assistant farmers go to all markets, make deliveries and are generally the face of the farm. These positions are paid a monthly salary plus incentives. Interested individuals should have completed several full growing seasons on other farms, and be oriented towards establishing farming careers. Positions are live in, beginning Mid-April or sooner, and going through October.

Farm Background:

Singing Cedars Farmstead has been in business in Orwell for 10 years, farming organically and diversified the entire time. Scott studied sustainable agriculture at UVM and has been involved in raising excellent organic foods for nearly 20 years.

Farm Setting and Operation:

The farm is located in a rural farming community of 1500 people. The farm sits on the beautiful shore of Lake Champlain and is surrounded by forest. Primarily a greenhouse operation with up to 2 acres of veggies land, intensively managed, and animals rotationally graze 14 acres. Composts are made on the farm as well as most of the soil. Produce, prepared foods and meats are sold at Farmers Markets, off the farm and to coops. Last season we attended over 100 markets, a weekly online market and made deliveries 3 days a week to restaurants and food coops. We are very busy.
