What's Growin' On

An online community of farmers in the Rutland region hosted by the Rutland Area Farm and Food Link

For over 25 years Rural Vermont has worked to ensure economic justice for Vermont farmers through advocacy and education. Join our committed team and help to fulfill our vision for a Vermont local food system, which sustains our farmers, our communities, and our lands.

Our internships are unpaid, but we do reimburse for expenses.
It is required that interns have a reliable source of transportation. Mileage reimbursement available for travel to events outside the Montpelier office.
You will receive excellent training, and will have a variety of networking opportunities. We are happy to fulfill any requirements you may have for school reporting, feedback, etc.
We are flexible with regard to the number of hours/week, and the length of the internship. We will work with you to find a schedule that suits your needs. We generally look for a 16, 24, or 32 hours/week commitment.
We will also work with you to develop a clear work plan with concrete deliverables for your portfolio. We have many projects available and can tailor a project so you learn the skills you want to develop while completing useful work for us.

Outreach Intern – Work with the Outreach Coordinator to strengthen and expand a statewide network of Rural Vermont supporters by helping to plan mission-driven events and various outreach activities. Learn how to plan an event from start to finish, including managing logistics, building relationships, supporting publicity/turnout, and recruiting volunteers. This is a great opportunity for anyone who wants to work with a grassroots organization. Get the skills you need to be a valuable team player right from the start. Reliable transportation is a must. Intern must be able to work in Montpelier office. Hours are flexible, however selected evenings and weekends will be required.  Special outreach projects might include helping to plan the Tour de Farms (an annual bike tour/fundraiser), Raw Dairy Processing Classes, or other educational workshops.

Organizer/Campaign Interns (two positions) - Work with staff to implement campaign goals. Travel throughout the state to engage Vermonters in Rural Vermont’s campaign promoting Vermonters Feeding Vermonters. The interns’ primary duties are to assist Rural Vermont’s staff in promoting campaigns, and tasks may include policy research, creating campaign materials, engaging and recruiting activists and volunteers, and representing Rural Vermont at farmer markets, fairs and other high profile public events throughout Vermont.  Reliable transportation is a must. Intern must be able to attend meetings and planning sessions at the Montpelier office. Hours are flexible, however some weekends and evenings will be required. This is a 20-30 hr/week internship.
