Annual Winter Hops Conference in Burlington - March 19

UVM Extension is hosting its third annual Winter Hops Conference. This year they are holding the event in Burlington at the Sheraton Hotel and Conference Center. Monday, March 19th, 2012 9:30 am – 4:00 pm Sheraton Hotel 870 Williston Road Burlington, VT 05403

A Farmer Panel will discuss growing hops in the Northeast, sharing lessons learned and experiences gained.

Daniel Sharp does research in the Food and Fermentation Science program at Oregon State University under Dr. Thomas Shellhammer. Daniel’s research currently focuses on the aroma compounds in hops and beer. Daniel will be conducting a hops sensory analysis.

Chris Callahan from Callahan Engineering and Roger Rainville from Borderview Farm will present the new and exciting small-scale hops harvester and small-scale baler designs.

UVM College of Engineering and Mathematical Sciences students will present their small-scale baler designs.

Ann Hazelrigg works at the Plant Diagnostic Clinic at the University of Vermont. She is also responsible for Pesticide Education and Safety and is the Vermont Representative for the Northeast Pest Management Network. Ann will discuss how to identify problems in your hopyard, the basics of pesticide rules and regulations, and spray equipment and how to calibrate it.

Lunch will be provided. Registration fee: $45. Registration fee for Northeast Hop Alliance members: $40 Cost of NeHA membership: $40/farm.
