As consumers grow increasingly aware of the CSA model and the “buy-local” philosophy, many farms are eager to meet the demand for year-round fresh, local, premium produce. At our winter-production and storage workshop, novice winter-producers will learn the different growing, harvesting and storage requirements of a wide range of specialty and common storage crops through a guided field and storage-structure tour. Participants will learn how our hosts scaled up their operation to include winter storage, and how they manage to produce greens 52 weeks out of the year with season extension, overwintering, high and low tunnels. The workshop will include a discussion of high tunnel construction considerations and the financial impact of winter crops, including marketing strategies, marketing outlets, profits and expenses.

Over the years the farm has focused on winter growing and season extension which has allowed it to produce for 2 weekly winter/ 4 summer farmers’ markets and over 100 winter/200 summer CSA members.
