RURAL VERMONT INTERNSHIPS - Research/Legal Intern, Outreach Intern and Organizer Intern positions available Rural Vermont is continuing its successful 25 years of advancing economic justice for Vermont farmers through advocacy and education. We are currently seeking interns for SUMMER 2011. Join our committed team and help to fulfill our vision for: Living Soils, Thriving Farms and Healthy Communities.
Our internships are unpaid, but we do reimburse for expenses. It is required that interns have a reliable source of transportation. Mileage reimbursement available for travel outside the Montpelier office. You will receive excellent training, and will have a variety of networking opportunities. We are happy to fulfill any requirements you may have for school reporting, feedback, etc.
We are flexible with regard to the number of hours/week, and the length of the internship. We will work with you to find a schedule that works. We offer 16, 24, and 32 hours/week internships.
We will also work with you to develop a clear workplan with concrete deliverables for your portfolio. We have many projects available and can customize a project so you learn the skills you want to develop while completing a useful product for us.
Research/Legal Internship—Work with staff on research projects that support Rural Vermont’s grassroots advocacy work. Work with the Director and farmer leaders to research agricultural policy (for this work, access to Lexus-Nexus extremely helpful). Develop skills in research and organization. Intern must be available to work in the Montpelier office, but can do some work from home or school. This is a 24-32 hr/week internship. Possible research issues may include raw milk, on-farm slaughter, or other issues relevant to achieving economic justice for farmers.
Outreach Intern – Work with staff to help plan events and turn people out to these events. Learn how to build a movement and connect with people in communities to build a statewide activist base. Write press releases and calendar listings, make posters, work with volunteers on phone trees, and organize mailings. Learn how to plan an event from start to finish. This is a great opportunity for anyone who wants to work with a social justice organization. Get the skills you will need to be a valuable team player right from the start. Reliable transportation is a must. Intern must be able to work in Montpelier office. Hours are flexible, however selected evenings are required. This is a 16 hr/week internship. Special focus might include helping to plan the Tour de Farms (an annual bike tour/fundraiser), Raw Dairy Processing Classes, or Farmer-to-Farmer educational workshops.
Organizer Intern - Work with staff to implement campaign goals. Travel throughout the state to engage Vermonters in the campaigns of Rural Vermont. Rural Vermont is looking to expand our membership, activist and volunteer base to consumers throughout the state. Gain valuable first hand experience in communicating issues to the public. This is great experience for anyone who wants to gain necessary skills for a future in campaign organizing. Great resume builder. Reliable transportation is a must. Intern must be able to attend meetings and planning sessions at the Montpelier office. Hours are flexible, however weekends and some evenings are mandatory, for the position requires attendance at farmer markets, fairs and other high profile events. This is a 24-32 hr/week internship.
