Dear Produce Growers, David Bonnano, from UMass Extension will be offering a workshop on food safety and preparing for a GAPs (Good Agricultural Practices) Audit in November and December. Here's a registration flier with details. Growers who have attended this workshop in the past have found it very helpful. If you are interested in becoming GAP certified for wholesale markets, it will help you prepare for a GAPs audit and draft your farm food safety plan. If you are on the fence, the workshop will help you decide if GAPs is right for you. If you have already completed an audit, this workshop will give you more background on food safety issues and help you figure out how to improve your system for next year.Attendees to the morning session will learn about pathogens associated with fresh produce, strategies for reducing food safety risks in all steps of production, and USDA GAPs Audits.
Attendees to the afternoon session will leave with a draft of a food safety plan for their farm. Growers can attend just the morning session or both the morning session and the afternoon session depending on their needs.
Space is limited and we expect the workshops to fill up quickly. The registration form is attached.
Please give me a call if you have any questions!
